In 2020, I received a 5 year grant by the European Research Council to build a personalized early warning system for depression, WARN-D. These funds also provided me with the opportunity to hire team members and start my own lab.
In the WARN-D project, we follow 2,000 students in the Netherlands for 2 years. Our goal is to prevent depression before it occurs by identifying early warning signals for depression onset. To do so, we integrate 1) modern measurement tools such as smartwatches and smartphones; 2) theories ranging from complex systems approaches to clinical theories; and 3) statistical models from network models to machine learning.
You can find more information about WARN-D on our dedicated website and in our protocol paper.
We also made a 4 minute video to show you what WARN-D is about.
